The Start of Something Good
Overshadowed by a closed-minded world of men, women began to emerge into the business world beginning in the 1500's. Anne Bradstreet was the first woman to become a published writer in 1587 with her book of poems,"The Tenth Muse Lately Sprung Up in America". A mere fifty seven years later, visual art followed. Henrietta Johnston began working as a portrait artist in South Carolina, becoming the first professional woman artist in America. Fast forward to 1896 and women have emerged in politics, have become lawyers, gone to college, and have even become renowned film directors. But these centuries of women were only the beginning, for women would not only begin to emerge in all aspects of the business world, but would later begin to dominate it.
